Sydney Loewen is a fifth year doctoral candidate pursuing her PhD in Health Psychology. Sydney received her B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Merced in 2009. Her current research investigates how individuals perceive their risk for various health threats; and, if their perceptions alter their protective behavior against those health threats. Her current subject of interest is looking at how individuals perceive their chance of contracting a sexually transmitted infection and if this alters their sexual behavior. This line of research aims to inform current health communication and public health interventions in an attempt to make them more effective.
